Maternity shoot
We were lucky enough to photograph the beautiful Renata and Erwin. We met just before dawn to take advantage of the light, and then met up in the studio. Renata had a gorgeous korowai to wear.

We had just finished a gorgeous maternity shoot at dawn, and Derrin filmed this kayaker in the golden morning light.
Derrin and I went away for the night to Kutarere. We booked a night in a cottage on a farm, and had a great time at Ohope and Opotiki. It’s worth trip if you want to relax, be sure to check out the takeaways at Ohiwa Oyster Farm.
While I was photographing a bride getting ready for her wedding day at the Anchorage Apartments. Derrin went to the Mount Manganui Farmers Market to do some filming. Go and check out the delicious crepes. We bought cheese to melt on to steak (OMG!) and I was very tempted by the fried bread and creamed paua.
PS. Check out that food from The Bach! Yum!
We attended Toi Ohomai’s pop up shop of student’s work – called “Insert Title here” the The second year students of the Bachelor in Creative Industries had their amazing art work for sale. There was delicious food from Melba Foods and the Toi Ohomai Culinary Students.

Great morning at Papamoa Unlimited‘s family event Pedal Papamoa sponsored by Powerco. We were able to video and photograph, edit and get the images up that afternoon for everyone to enjoy. Loved seeing families out having fun especially the little kids on their bikes. Thanks to the Pap Tav for the sausages!
Tonight I had to fillet fish. It’s a job I can do but not very well – my first job was at a fisheries, and I dated a serious fisherman, so I’ve had a bit of training. My fillets were serviceable, but not beautiful, the cats had plenty of scraps that were left on the bone. And I while I ate my delicious snapper for dinner, I thought over an interesting conversation I had at at Vegan Vibes on Saturday.
It took place as I was photographing near the end of the day. One of the owners at a stall asked me not to photograph her food, as in her opinion it wasn’t looking it’s best after a long day. She was protective of her brand, and wanted to ensure that any content posted was of quality products. She said that extended to her cafe, where she assumed that every product would be photographed and posted on instagram, so she ensured that nothing was sent out less than perfect and photograph ready.
So where’s the link between my filleting fish, and her beautiful products. It’s about branding and content. And making sure what you’re putting out is both true, honest, and the best representation of your brand possible. My filleting is slow and painful, and I end up with rough and ready fillets that I wouldn’t want to share. Make sure your content isn’t like my fillets – keep control of your brand, and make sure it looks amazing everywhere it is posted!
PS these photos are from a degustation by Toi Ohomai Chefs a few months back. Beautiful food, beautiful presentation.
Wow – had an amazing afternoon at Vegan Vibes on Saturday. Great products, delicious food, and relaxed happy people. It was our first time there, and we’ll definitely be back next year. I loved the range of products – from art to flowers to skin care. The food and drinks were amazing – a plant based lifestyle is certainly appealing!
One of my favourite things to photograph is people. Whether I catch them in the moment, at events such as the Start-Up Weekend or RAD, or crafting a specific look for a website. I know photos are hard. I had to take one of myself for this site, and I didn’t like it at all! What I have found however, is the camera reflects, who you are at that moment and what you’re thinking, so a great portrait is about relaxing, being you, and thinking about what you want to portray.
